Four Ways That Your Product’s Packaging Can Be Successful
It is important to know that the average shopper reads only about 7 words throughout the duration of their trip. Because of this, shoppers rely on specific colors, shapes, and familiar locations in stores and markets to get what they need. To put it more clearly, they know what they want to buy, and are loyal to certain brands.
In order for a brand to become a success, it must have a unique viewpoint and send a clear message for why it exists and why customers should buy into it. Packaging that is effective will make it easy for customers to understand what it is you are selling and what purpose it serves. And of course, the product needs to satisfy the customer for a continued product investment.
Here are four things that you need to do to for your packaging to be seen as unique.
Have conspicuous packaging.
If you look at competitor’s products in the supermarket, you will see all kinds of colors and shapes on each of their folding boxes to not only grab your attention, but also to stand out from the rest. Hire a graphic designer to come up with elaborate packaging so that your product does not get lost in the shuffle when it hits the market.
Have simple packaging.
While you would like your folding box or other package to be unique and catch the attention of shoppers, you would also like to make your packaging clean and free of energy and business. Cereal boxes, for instance, are proven to be effective alone by just having colors, text or a logo, and an image of the product right on the box. Simple packaging will also draw pairs of eyeballs to it when shoppers are browsing shelves full of flashy, colorful graphics.
Make it recognizable.
You may have heard of the “five-year-old test” before. If the brand is recognizable enough to a child, the brand is doing something extremely well in becoming popular and successful. If you have a child and ask him or her to retrieve a box of oatmeal, it will be very likely that he or she will give you a box of Quaker Oats, since he or she can easily recognize the renowned portrait on the box.
You can come up with a creative logo, a catchy brand name, or simply a package design that is out-of-this-world, and customers will easily gravitate towards it.
Create emotional connections.
When a product makes customers feel a certain way, they will act accordingly. They will either buy the product when there is a positive connection or pass it up when there is a negative connection, or no connection at all. It is just like looking at a person that is looking back at you, you are compelled to give the product your attention if something about its packaging catches your eye. While not a huge necessity, many packages contain images of smiling people on the front, so that it shows that you will be satisfied when you use the products inside of them. Packages can also express a certain demographic. If you are shopping with your child, and your child sees a package with another child on it, they will know that it is a product for kids like him or her.
Effective branding does not only come from learning about and adhering to consumer behavior, but also from making a difference to those consumers with powerful messages that will contribute to changes in their behaviors. Now you know what you need to design a package that will help your product sell in stores.
