Everything Plastic
Plastic Products are versatile, durable and easy to transport. They last longer and are light so easy to transport. They have a lot of applications. We are surrounded by plastic products and devices that use plastic products. Plastic is impact-resistant, light weight and durable. Laptops, computers, cellular phones, cars are just few examples of devices which use plastic in their manufacture.
Different manufacturing processes are employed to manufacture plastic for different products. There are three different types of processes used for plastic manufacturing according to product requirements namely injection moulding, plastic extrusion moulding and thermoforming.
Injection moulding is the most common type of plastic manufacturing process, creating many practical plastic products. Thermoplastic presses plastic pellets into various moulds until the plastic cools and hardens into the appropriate shape. Plastic containers, toys, tubes are made by the process of injection moulding, plastic extrusion moulding & thermoforming.
In Plastic extrusion moulding, the plastic is melted and shaped over the mould and not inside. The plastic is melted over a particular mould, cooled either by spinning or by cold air blast. This plastic manufacturing process is used for products which are used intensely such as auto bumpers and hoses, tool cases, surf boards and more.
Thermoforming is the least intensive plastic manufacturing process which heats a large plastic until it becomes pliable, then the plastic is tugged, the process is similar to clay modelling. There are very limited options to manufacture plastic as not many shapes and designs are possible with semisolid pieces of plastic in less heat intensity. It is a booming industry which is constantly developing new and innovative methods to develop plastic.
Plastic is more durable and cost effective and is replacing metals as it is very light comparison. It uses more complex machinery. Laptops, cellular phones and cars use plastic in their manufacturing.
Plastic industry manufactures polymer materials- commonly called plastics. It is also used in number of other industries such as packaging, building, construction, electronics, aerospace and transportation. It is also extensively used in chemical industries as well it is used in the manufacturing of fertilizers and pesticides.
Mineral oil is used in the manufacturing of plastic and is also a part of the petrochemical industry. Besides plastics production, plastic engineering is also an important part of the industrial sector. The latter field is dominated by engineering plastic as raw material because of its better mechanical and thermal properties than the more widely used commodity plastics. According to “plasticEurope” top three markets for plastics are packaging, building, construction and automotive.
PVC or Polyvinyl chloride is the world’s third most widely produced synthetic plastic polymer, after polythene and polypropylene. PVC comes in two: rigid & flexible forms. It is also used for bottles, other non-food packaging and cards and can be made more flexible and soft by adding plasticizers, the most widely used phtalates. It is used in plumbing electrical cable insulation, imitation leather and more. It can be used to make gift packaging box pillows. Plastic is highly versatile and is great for all kinds of retail products.
